About Us (me)

August 2022 update: Fiesta Shorts is now part of Project Spurs! You’ll find my new articles there at roughly the same cadence you previously found them here.

Fiesta Shorts is the kind of newsletter for you if you’ve ever wondered things like, “What would Keldon Johnson eat if he had a craving for fast food?” or, “If I had to drink a beer for every time I yelled a curse word at my TV while watching Lonnie Walker IV play basketball, how many beers per game would I have to drink?”

We engage in thoughtful explorations now and again, but this is not the kind of place you should be going if you want a really, truly serious blog. Or if you want to see a bunch of numbers in a format like this: .438/.398/.875

The plan is that once a week, typically Thursday or Friday, if you subscribe, you’ll get an email from me with a short, sweet article on whatever it is that I thought about writing that week. We play it loose with punctuation, sometimes we use naughty words, but ultimately Fiesta Shorts is a fun and respectful home for basketball-adjacent conversation.

Your author is Trace. He lives in Berlin, Germany. Previously he has lived these places (in chronological order):

  1. Lafayette, California

  2. Seguin, Texas (this is where the Spurs thing came from)

  3. Thousand Oaks, California

  4. Lismore, Australia (just half a year, but I’m counting it!)

  5. Santa Cruz, California

  6. San Jose, California

  7. San Francisco, California

  8. Seattle, Washington

Trace became a Spurs fan as a first-grader shortly after moving to Seguin, Texas (roughly 45 minutes from San Antonio) and winning a David Robinson poster in P.E. class.

He went on to study journalism and media production in college, and edited the sports page of his university’s newspaper for two years.

Trace now does absolutely nothing related to sports in any professional capacity, but he dreams about jumping high enough to dunk a basketball on a regular basis.
